Maria Manuela de Amorim Calheiros research interests cover the areas of education, well-being and risk factors associated to child and youth development; parental abuse and neglect; poverty; and the design and evaluation of intervention programs with the aim of promoting greater sustainability in the social, environmental and economic areas. From 2006 to 2013 she was the coordinator of the Masters in Community Psychology and Child Protection, from 2010 to 2013 she was the President of the Portuguese Association of Psychology. From 2012 to 2014 she was head of the Department of Social and Organizational Psychology, ISCTE-IUL. She also founded and was a member of the ISCTE Ethics Committee for 8 years. She has been Member of National and International Competitive Scientific Project Evaluation Panels, such as European Reseach Council (ERC), Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF), Fundação para a Ciencia e Teclologia (FCT), Francisco Manuel dos Santos Foundation (FFMS). With a strong focus on social psychological intervention, she has developed several research-based projects on programs that have been applied in different private and public institutions, with the government (at the national level and the Council of Europe) in providing technical information to support regulations and guidelines (e.g., for preventing violence towards children), implementing changes in institutions and facilitating the national implementation of European politics. She has published 81 articles in specialized journals, has 29 book chapters and 4 books. She organized 55 events. Supervised 8 doctoral theses, 41 master's dissertations. She awarded 43 awards and/or honors.
