Evelina Daniela Rodrigues studies gestural communication in human and non-human primates. Beyond communication, she is also interested in other aspects of social development and cognition, including interactions among social partners (such as hierarchy and social bonds), social learning and culture, object manipulation and tool use, and theory of mind. More broadly, her interests extend to how variation in nonverbal behaviour influences social perception and interpersonal understanding across different populations. She holds a degree in Evolutionary Biology and a Master’s in Cognitive Sciences from the University of Lisbon, where she studied preverbal infant communication. Her research has taken her to institutions such as the University of Girona, Kyoto University, and UCLA, where she explored multimodal communication and the social dimensions of language. She was awarded a PhD scholarship from FCT to investigate communicative accommodation, conducting her research in collaboration with ISPA–Instituto Universitário and the University of St Andrews. She is now an invited assistant professor at Universidade Católica Portuguesa, where she teaches Bachelor’s students about Human Biology and Master’s students about the cognitive foundations of language.
