Rachid Omira is currently a Senior Researcher (Investigador Principal) at the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere and an integrated researcher at the Faculty of Sciences (IDL-FCUL), University of Lisbon. He holds a degree in Physics and a PhD in Geophysics. His research focuses on the numerical modeling of seismic and non-seismic tsunamis and associated coastal risk. He is the author and co-author of more than 50 peer-reviewed international scientific publications, as well as 5 book chapters. He has delivered over 20 invited talks and professional training sessions, and his work has been presented at more than 70 international conferences. Rachid has conducted numerous studies on regional and local tsunami hazard assessment, contributing significantly to the understanding of tsunami hazard and vulnerability from both seismic and non-seismic sources. His work has also supported the development of an end-to-end national tsunami warning system hosted at IPMA, where he currently serves as scientific coordinator of the Portuguese Tsunami Warning Center. Throughout his career, he has gained extensive experience in leading and contributing to collaborative research projects. He has led or co-led two completed projects funded by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT) and has participated, as a task leader or team member, in more than 15 completed national and European projects. His contributions to the scientific and societal community also include editorial, reviewing, and organizational activities, as well as the evaluation of research funding applications. Since February 2022, he has served as an Editor of Natural Hazards and Earth System Sciences, an ISI-indexed journal of the European Geosciences Union, published by Copernicus Publications.

  5. Tsunami hazard induced by a newly discovered landslide in the Tagus delta off Lisbon (Portugal). Deltas are sedimentary bodies with high sedimentation rates that are very sensitive to changes in environmental conditions. The Tagus delta off Lisbon (Portugal) is characterized by the presence of high energy deposit and erosive structures with an estimated age of approximately 8 ky BP.
