Rita Vilaça (RV) received an M.Sc. in Biochemistry in 2008 at the University of Porto, under the supervision of Prof Vítor Costa and Prof Nuno Mateus, and was a visiting student at Manuel Santos Lab (University of Aveiro). RV received Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences in 2014 at the University of Porto under the supervision of Prof Vítor Costa (an expert in yeast studies) and Prof Clara de Sá Miranda (MD, Ph.D., an expert in lysosomal storages disorders). In 2019 RV moved to Coimbra to join the Mitochondria and Neurodegenerative Diseases Group (headed by Prof Ana Cristina Rego) to work in exosomes cell-based therapies to tackle Huntington's disease. From 2021 to 2023, RV joined the Biomolecular Structure & Function Group at i3S (headed by Dr. Sandra Macedo-Ribeiro) to work as Research Trainer and Communication Manager at the EU Horizon2020 funded PhasAGE project (https://phasage.eu/). Since 2022 RV is the Science Communication Coordinator and Work Group Leader of COST Action ML4NGP (CA21160). RV is actively engaged in scientific literacy and dissemination of science to the public. RV participated in several courses and workshops on science communication, project management and ethics, being certified as trainer in Biology, Health Sciences, and Conception and Organization of Educational Projects. RV is highly experienced in medical and scientific writing (author/co-author of >10 peer-reviewed publications and 5 abstracts in proceedings), research communication and dissemination (author/co-author of >10 oral communications in national and international conferences, author of >10 poster communications, and 3 seminars as an invited speaker), event organization (international conferences, advanced training programmes and inclusive society targeted actions). RV was an assistant professor by invitation at the Institute of Biomedical Sciences Abel Salazar at the University of Porto (UP) (2015-2024). RV supervised and co-supervised master and bachelor students and actively participated in tutoring other lab members. RV has high interpersonal, problem-solving and risk management skills. Currently, RV works at LAQV-REQUIMTE as project manager of EU-funded projects including WHEATBIOME (GA 101084344), COST Action FLAVOURsome (CA22161) and BeTasty (GA 101040462).
