Sofia Capelo, has a PhD in chemistry and is an assistant professor of environmental chemistry at the University of Évora since 1996. She has a degree in Technological Chemistry from the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon and a PhD in Chemistry from the Instituto Superior Técnico, also at the University of Lisbon. From 2014 to 2019, she was course director for the degree in Ecology and Environment, a new course at the University of Évora. This direction implied: (1) the creation of the degree in Ecology and Environment, accredited by A3ES in May 2015, for 6 years (Diário da República, 2nd series Nº 128 3 July 2015), without conditions, entering into operation for the first time in the 2016/2017 academic year, and (2) the preparation of the course self-assessment guide in 2019. She continued as deputy of the Executive and Monitoring Committee (CEA) of the degree in Ecology and Environment until 2023. Currently, is a collaborator at the Institute of Earth Sciences (ICT) and the Interdisciplinary Center for History, Cultures and Societies (CIDEHUS), both centers rated Very Good. She has published several articles in international journals, with emphasis on the patent entitled "Process of remediation for acidic waters contaminated with heavy metals" published in 2007.
