Graduated in Applied Chemistry from the Faculty of Science and Technology of Universidade Nova de Lisboa in 1989 and received her PhD from the same University in 1996, under the guidance of Sundaresan Prabhakar and co-supervision of Ana Lobo. She was a postdoc in the group where she received her doctorate and in Henry Rezpa's group at Imperial College London. She was a provisional Physics and Chemistry teacher in the 3rd cycle of Basic Education and Secondary Education, having taught Physics and Chemistry and Chemistry Laboratory Techniques subjects, and an assistant professor at the Beja hub of the Modern University (Private and Cooperative Higher Education ), where she taught General Chemistry and was coordinator of the degree in Civil Engineering (1997 to 2000) and president of the Scientific Council (1998 to 2000). Since October 2000, she has been an assistant professor of Organic Chemistry at the University of Algarve, where she has carried out research in the area of organic synthesis, in particular in the synthesis of polymers and chemical modification of natural polymers, with a view to applications in pharmacy, electronics, the environment and biomedicine. She is an integrated researcher at the Center for Electronics, Optoelectronics and Telecommunications (CEOT) at the University of Algarve. She was part of the team for several funded scientific projects. She is the co-author of around 70 scientific articles, 1 international patent, 3 school manuals of Physics and Chemistry and 1 of Chemistry. Co-supervised doctoral and master's theses, and undergraduate scientific internships and pedagogical internships in Physics and Chemistry. She served on several juries for master's and doctoral exams as a member, president or examiner. She frequently reviews scientific articles for international journals. Participated in the organization of 2 international and 1 national scientific conferences, 3 national didactic meetings and 1 summer school. She presented lectures and organized workshops aimed at secondary school students and teachers and the general public, and also participated in actions to provide services to the community. She is a consultant for a spin-off company, was president of the pedagogical council of the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Algarve, was coordinator of the Organic Chemistry section and was a member of the Safety Committee and the Executive Committee of the Department of Chemistry and Pharmacy. She was also a member of two degree coordinations and contributed to the training offer of the University of Algarve.
