My research focuses on the macroeconomic effects of fiscal and energy policy, studying how carbon markets, energy taxation, and other major shocks transmit through prices, output, and inflation expectations. This extends to commodity markets (fertilizers, rare earths, critical minerals) and supply chain disruptions in transportation and shipping. Sectoral dynamics run through most of this work: how energy-intensive industries, fuel markets, and power systems respond to policy and market shocks. The main tools are structural VAR models, Bayesian estimation, and narrative identification. As a Consultant at Portugal's Tax Authority, the work covers the evaluation of tax expenditure and fiscal policy design. Research has appeared in Energy Economics, Food Policy, Resources Policy, Utilities Policy, Marine Policy, Energy, Research in Transportation Economics, The Journal of Economic Asymmetries, and International Economics, among others. Other outputs include uncertainty indices (EPU, ETU, CPU) and narrative tax datasets for Portugal, as well as policy reports on tax expenditure for the European Commission. Referee work covers journals across energy, environmental, and applied economics, including Energy Economics, Ecological Economics, Resources Policy, Applied Energy, Energy and Climate Change, Journal of Commodity Markets, and Transportation Research. I am also the winner of 42nd edition of the portuguese Global Management Challenge.
