Ricardo Martins received his MSc degree in Biomedical Engineering from the Faculty of Sciences and Technology (FCT) of University of Coimbra (UC) in 2008. He was distinguished with several awards: three “UC best student merit award”, three “BPI-FCTUC award - best biomedical engineering student ”, three “UC top 3% of students award”. In March 2017, Ricardo Martins earned his PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering (specialization in automation and robotics) from the University of Coimbra. He presented contributions to the development of artificial perception and decision computational models applied to robotic haptic exploration and dexterous manipulation tasks. Since 2008, Ricardo Martins has collaborated as researcher at the ISR-UC (Institute of Systems and Robotics-UC) and CIS-UC (Centre for Informatics and Systems-UC) on EU-ICT funded projects in the field of cognitive systems and robotics (HANDLE-FP7, PROMETHEUS-FP7), and medical informatics (EPILEPSIAE-FP7). In January 2014, he became researcher at the IBILI-CNC (Institute for Biomedical Imaging and Life Sciences - UC) and ICNAS-UC (Institute for Nuclear Sciences Applied to Health - UC). He has been involved on interdisciplinary projects developing biomedical engineering tools (visual stimuli, neuroimage signal processing, biostatistics, machine learning, computational modeling) applied to cognitive neuroscience, namely in the study of visual perception, perceptual decision and theory-of-mind, searching for novel biomarkers in neurological and psychiatric disorders (schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, autism). Ricardo Martins has attended and organized several advanced training talks, seminars, and workshops in the field of neuroimaging analysis, biostatistics, and machine learning. He has served as invited reviewer for several engineering journals (Neurocomputing, Pattern Recognition Letters, Journal of Field Robotics, International Journal of Robotics and Automation and top conferences on robotics, automation and machine intelligence (IEEE IROS, IEEE ICRA, IEEE RO-MAN, ACM SAC, IFAC SYROCO, IEEE/ASME AIM). Ricardo Martins maintains a website https://rmartins.net/ on which he provides information about his professional activities, publications and projects, uses a blog to disseminate the latest scientific debates and technology breakthroughs, and shares open-code, datasets and demos from several applications developed by him.
