My academic journey started with the Clinical Physiology course at ESTESC (Polytechnic of Coimbra). During this course, I did an observational internship in nine units of Coimbra University Hospitals. After a year I opted for a different path, enrolling on the Graphic and Multimedia Design course at ESAD.CR (Polytechnic of Leiria), which was completed with a curricular internship. Following that, I signed up for the first edition on master course in Design for Health and Well-being (at the same institution) having published 3 papers and presented those at national and international conferences, such as AHFE (New York), EhSemi (Aveiro), ECADE - IAFOR (Porto), and a poster at the General Assembly of RUN-EU (Ireland). The scientific documents submitted were focused on the importance of the designer’s role in health observational studies, which were connected to my dissertation’s project “Cohort Study Good Practices: Design Guidelines for a Preparatory Stage”. The idea for this dissertation was linked to the contribution I have made as a designer for health and well-being in the preparatory stage of project LISA – “Estudo Longitudinal de Literacia em Saúde no Concelho de Leiria”, which measures the health literacy levels in the county of Leiria. Throughout my time at Polytechnic of Leiria, I was elected president of the institution’s Student Council in the European alliance they led (RUN-EU), participating in two grant mobilities around Europe in representation of the students. Simultaneously, I worked as a designer at Deloitte Portugal and acquired a Certificate for Pedagogical Competences (CCP) emitted by IEFP. In 2023, I worked alongside teachers and researchers of the UCT research centre from FH Vorarlberg to understand the role of Design in the Health field in Austria, presenting a lecture on the topic to the “Mechatronics” class, as part of a RUN-EU mobility research grant. Later that year, I joined the Design PhD program at the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Porto, intending to address further the connection between “Design” and “Health” fields. To complement it, I even enrolled on short courses delivered by the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich and EUGLOH (European University Alliance for Global Health). In my spare time, I applied to the European Student Assembly, a European Project for students from different socio-economic and national backgrounds to draft policy documents to be presented and divulged to the European Commission. I was selected (out of 800 applicants) for the first edition, facilitating the Panel “Health Union”, and this year (2024), I returned to the project appointed as a panel coordinator. To summarise my academic contributions, I have collaborated on 2 conference abstracts (1 under submission), 3 conference papers, 6 posters (2 presented at conferences, and 4 at exhibitions), 1 preprint paper, 6 oral presentations, and multiple musical performances. Additionally, I have been an organizing member of 4 diverse events (2 connected to the emergent area of “Design for Health and Well-being”, a symposium and an exhibition), participating in various events around Europe, being interviewed twice.
