Eugenia Roussou holds a PhD in Social Anthropology (2010) from University College London (UCL), University of London, London, U.K. She is currently a senior researcher at the Centro em Rede de Investigação em Antropologia (CRIA), ISCTE-IUL, Lisbon, Portugal. She was previously a post-doctoral researcher at CRIA, Universidade Nova Lisboa, Lisbon, Portugal (2011-2017), with two projects funded by the Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia-FCT (ref.: SFRH / BPD / 72003/2010), and a visiting researcher (2014-5) at Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences, Athens, Greece. She is the Principal Investigator and team leader of the 3-year project ReSpell, funded by the Portuguese Foundation of Science and Technology (2023-). She is the co-Reviews Editor of the journal Religion and Society, the Treasurer of ISARS (International Society for Academic Research on Shamanism) and one of the main coordinators of NAR (Network for the Anthropology of Religion, CRIA). Her research focuses on the social scientific - and anthropological, more specifically - study of religion and spirituality, transnational religiosity, vernacular religion, New Age and/or alternative spirituality, religious pluralism, ritual healing practices, Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM), and religious materiality, with particular comparative geographical reference to Portugal and Greece.
