Embarking on a journey that seamlessly blends innovation with sustainability, Fangyuan Zheng's academic odyssey commenced with her graduation in Chemical Engineering in 2014 from the prestigious University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). Her degree thesis delved into the intricate effects of NaOH concentration on the desilication process of zeolite HY, pivotal for enhancing the efficiency of Pt/HY catalysts in the hydrocracking of polystyrene. In 2016, Zheng's pursuit of excellence led her to attain a master's degree in Chemical Engineering from UPV/EHU. Her master's thesis, developed under the auspices of a grant at SENER Ingeniería y Sistemas, was a testament to her visionary approach, focusing on the design of water treatment plants that epitomize innovation and sustainability. Zheng's professional journey took a dynamic turn as she engaged in a multitude of international projects within the Environment & Renewable Energy sector. In 2019, she carried out doctoral thesis at BCMaterials and Macromolecular Chemistry Group (Labquimac) of UPV/EHU by a pre-doctoral fellowship from UPV/EHU. Her doctoral thesis was focused on dealing with the major drawback of photocatalysis (poor efficiency under sunlight and reusability) towards industrial applications for water remediation and concluded her PhD in 2023. She has a solid knowledge in removal of contaminants of emerging concern (CECs) such as pharmaceuticals by photocatalytic process and a wide experience in the nanomaterials and nanocomposite membranes development and characterisation. Currently, as a post-doctoral researcher, she is now developing 3D printing natural/synthetic polymeric multifunctional membranes to remove persistent contaminants PFAs in water matrices. Notably, Zheng has realized two scientific stays at University of Minho (Braga, Portugal), as well as participated on different international and national conferences. She has published 6 scientific papers in international peer-reviewed journal, most of them as first author. She also won the 3rd prize EU TalentON 2022 activity ((Leiden, Netherlands), due to project “Detecting and monitoring microplastics in surface waters using a combination of machine learning and citizen science”.
