Alexandros is an enthusiastic Biology Researcher and Educator with a diverse array of research interests spanning Molecular Biology, Genetics, Gene Expression, and Ecology. Primarily a wet-lab experimentalist, he also possesses strong skills in bioinformatic analyses. His research primarily centers on marine organisms, including fish, aquatic invertebrates, and seagrasses. With participation in twelve European projects and a history of supervising undergraduate students, he has made significant contributions to his field. His recent research delves into fish reproduction, specifically exploring the role of extracellular vesicles (EVs) in fish bio-fluids. In addition to his scientific pursuits, he has a background in Counseling and Sex education and a passionate interest in diving. His educational journey includes a four-year Bachelor's degree in Biology from the University of Crete, specializing in biomolecular sciences & biotechnology. He completed his Master's in Research at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, focusing on ecological research and environmental management, with his Master's thesis in landscape genetics. He earned a Ph.D. in Biology at the University of Crete, with a thesis titled "Gene networks underlying functional sex in Sparidae (Pisces, Teleostei): inference by comparative transcriptomics." This work focused on sex differentiation in five Sparidae species, comparing gene expression differences in gonads using RNAseq. Alexandros has served as a Research Fellow and later as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Genetics Laboratory of the Institute of Marine Biology, Biotechnology, and Aquaculture, HCMR (Hellenic Centre for Marine Research), Crete. He is currently a Junior Researcher at CCMAR within the Aquagroup, led by Professor Elsa Cabrita, for the "Spermantiox" project. In this role, his primary focus remains on fish reproduction, with a specific emphasis on extracellular vesicles.
