I studied Biomedical Engineering, completing the Master Integrated cycle in Clinical Engineering in 2007. After my master degree, my professional career as researcher has started at Hospital de São Marcos de Braga, and in 2008 I became a research member at University of Minho (UM), collaborating with the biopharmaceutical company Biotecnol, Immutherapies for life® and the Institute of Molecular Pathology and Immunology of the University of Porto. In 2009, I initiated my PhD project in animal cell cultures to optimize a monoclonal antibody production and to assure the antibody quality and functionally. My PhD research activity was mostly performed at the Centre of Biological Engineering (CEB) at UM, in Biofilm´s research group (Supervisors: Professor Rosário Oliveira and Professor Mariana Henriques), but also at Biotechnology Engineering School - Dublin City University, with Professor Ian Marison´s research group, allowing me to acquire international experience. From 2013 to 2018, I was a Pos-doc researcher integrated in CEB Biofilm group and assistant director of LIBRO (Laboratory of Investigation on Biofilms Rosário Oliveira) at CEB. Since 2019 , I am a hired Junior Researcher at CEB-UM, working on "Novel strategies to fight Candida species infection". Additionally, I hold the position of assistant director of LMAS (Laboratory of Applied Health Microbiology (2020-)) at CEB, and I participated in 12 research projects. I highlight the most recent projects as Co-PI local "SensBrain4Med entitled Brain-om-a-chip device integrated with biosensors: a preclinical platform for neurological diseases" (FCT, EXPL/EMD/0650/2021) (ongoing); Antisen4CandiB entitled "Application of antisense oligomers for controlling Candida species biofilm formation on medical surfaces (POCI-01-0145-FEDER-028893); and SUSPHAGE entitle Development of a phage-based product to control Escherichia coli associated post-weaning diarrhea in piglets (POCI-01-0247-FEDER-033679). I have supervised the work of a total of 9 students (1 PhD, 6 MSc and 1 trainee undergraduate) and, I also developed activities in the scope of the examination of master´s thesis and academic projects of several scientific works. I have also occupied the role of evaluator of international R&D project proposals, under the OPUS Funding Program (Narodowe Centrum Nauki, Poland). Other relevant activities, including the revision of papers in international peer-reviewed scientific journals, participation in international congresses, scientific courses and workshop organization/instruction of practical sessions in international courses of my area of expertise, have been performed. I was also invited as auxiliary professor of the practical/theoretical practical classes Fenómenos Interfaciais (Integrated Master in Biomedical Engineering), Laboratórios de Fenómenos de Transferência and Laboratórios Integrados em Engenharia Clínica at UM. Recently, I participated in the course "Idealab - laboratory of business ideas (TecMinho, UM)": training program for business ideas.Recently, I was awarded with 3rd place in the PhD&Researchers category of the H-INNOVA Hub call for Health project 2023. Of note, the last years include two periods of maternity license of 5 months each (from 1st October 2015 until 29th February 2016 and from 12th May 2018 until 11th October 2018). Using objective indicators, I have published 41 papers in peer-reviewed international journals, 1 patent (at international level) and 6 book chapter. All of my research has a high impact of scientific innovation, evidenced by the quality of publications in internationally renowned scientific journals, in Q1/Q2 quartiles. Also, 25 posters and 9 oral communications have been published in national/international scientific meetings. I organized more than 23 outreach events (courses, workshops and seminars for scientific dissemination) and supervised 1 PhD thesis and 14 MSc dissertations.
