Andreia Forte completed her graduation in Applied Chemistry (Biotechnology specialization) in 2010 at Universidade Nova de Lisboa – Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia. Her final degree project aimed to synthesize novel ionic liquids based on biological (particularly amino acids) and pharmaceutical ions. In 2011, she started a Traineeship in Solchemar Company and, after that, she was integrated in PTDC/CTM/103664/2008 R&D project - Development of Novel Organic Energetic Materials based on Ionic Liquids as research fellow. Since 2011, she has been integrated into the LAQV-REQUIMTE Research Centre in the "Cultural Heritage and Responsive Materials" group (CHARM). She completed her master’s degree in Bioorganics in 2013 at Universidade Nova de Lisboa – Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia with the thesis "Synthesis and Characterization of novel biocompatible ionic liquids". Beyond the usual compounds structure characterization, this work allowed her to perform biological studies (more specifically, toxicity studies in fungal cells). Also in 2013, she was integrated as research fellow in PTDC/CTM-NAN/120658/2010 R&D project (Development and Application of Electrochromic and Magnetic Ionic Liquids) where it was possible to prepare magnetic ionic liquids or organic salts. Additionally, it was possible to work with azamacrocycle and diethylenetriamine-pentaacetic acid ligands to be complexed with specific paramagnetic and/or luminescent metals. She completed her PhD in Sustainable Chemistry in 2024 at Universidade Nova de Lisboa - Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica António Xavier. Her thesis had as main goal the search for novel strategies for early detection of neurodegenerative diseases. In this work it was possible to prepare and characterize magnetic materials such as magnetic organic salts and functionalized mesoporous silica nanoparticles to apply as contrast agents for MRI diagnosis technique and, also, new amyloid-specific ionic fluorescent probes. Between 2020 and 2021, Andreia was integrated as research fellow in two different projects, SAICTPAC/0046/2015 R&D project (Harvesting and storage of solar energy) and PTDC/QUI- QOR/32406/2017 – 1/2020 R&D project (Líquidos Iónicos Farmacêuticos como uma nova plataforma para o tratamento efectivo da Tuberculose). In 2022, she was working as research fellow in PTDC/EAM-AMB/2023/2021 R&D project (SUSTECH4H20 - Tecnologias Sustentáveis para Remoção de Micropoluentes de Água) where she prepared different systems with functionalized silica nanoparticles and, also, with functionalized iron oxide nanoparticles. In 2023 she was integrated as research fellow in R&D project 2022.07089.PTDC (NATURIST - Carbon paper and carbon cloth-based sensors for pharmaceutical pollutants: Novel green tools to guarantee fish safety and surveil ecosystems) where she prepared silica nanoparticles functionalized with ionic liquids/DES to be tested as electrolytes for application in electrochemical sensors that allow the determination of pharmaceutical pollutants in various environmental matrices and the evaluation of the food safety of aquatic species. Currently, she has been working as research fellow under the PRR Project InsectERA. Andreia published 9 articles (5 as first author) published in international journals, 12 oral communications (4 as speaker) and 11 poster contributions (7 as presenting author). She was member of the Organizing Committee of the 6th Portuguese Young Chemists Meeting in 2018 and co-supervised 2 undergraduate students.
