Cristina Sá Valentim is a social and cultural anthropologist with an MA and BA from the University of Coimbra and a PhD in Sociology specialising in Postcolonial Studies from CES-University of Coimbra (FCT Fellow). She is currently a Posdoctoral Researcher (Investigadora Júnior) at the ICS of the University of Lisbon (CEEC-FCT 4th Edition), working with the "Empires, Colonialism and Postcolonial Societies" research group. She is also a visiting professor at the University of Coimbra. In 2022, she published the book Sounds of Empire, Voices of Cipale. Cokwe Songs and Memories of Forced Labour in the Lundas Region, Angola, which was awarded the Agostinho Neto International Historical Research Prize (2019–2020 edition), organised by the Dr. António Agostinho Neto Foundation (FAAN), Angola, the Afro-Brazilian Institute of Higher Education (IABES), Brazil, and UNESCO. Her main research interests include Portuguese late colonialism in Angola, forced labour, rural communities and territories, folklore studies, popular music, natural and cultural heritage, environmental and social sustainability and well-being, identity strategies, migration and digital humanities. She is a peer reviewer for national and international scientific journals and an expert evaluator of academic and non-academic project applications for national and international funding programmes. She has published several articles in indexed, open-access, double-peer-reviewed national and international journals and online sites, two book chapters and two books (master's and PhD theses). She teaches at several university institutions and is involved in management and science dissemination activities. She has been a researcher on several national and international projects with multidisciplinary teams. She has presented several papers at national and international events, and organised scientific events.
