Ágata Alveirinho Dias got her PhD in Geology (specialization in Mineralogy and Crystallography) in 2009, at the University of Lisbon (Portugal). After this, she took two post-doctoral research positions, the first focused on the ultra-slow spreading ridges hydrothermal systems from the Artic (H2Deep project; EUROMARC/0001/2007/ H2DEEP) and the second on the slow-spreading ridges systems from off the Portuguese EEZ (FCT - SFRH/BPD/68648/2010). She is currently Professor at the geology department of the FCUL and co-coordinator of the RG2 – “Ocean, coastal and land surface processes” of the Associate lab IDL in Portugal. Before 2023 she was an Associate Professor at the Institute of Science and Environment (ISE) of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ, Macau), where she lead a research group in Earth and Marine Sciences, coordinate the MSc programme in Environmental Sciences and Management and was President of the Scientific Council of ISE, member of the Pedagogical Council of ISE, and member of the Senate of USJ. In addition. On total she has 25 years of academic experience including in ULHT and FCUL. Agata Dias is also research collaborator at Estrutura de Missão para a Extensão da Plataforma Continental (EMEPC), Adjunt professor at USJ and Visiting Researcher at the Second Institute of Oceanography, State Oceanic Administration (SIO-SOA, Hangzhou, China). She has been researching deep-sea hydrothermal systems since 1996, being a team member or coordinator of projects funded by FCT (Portugal), the European Commission, and FDCT (Macau). She has participated in several scientific oceanographic cruises and was part of the team that discovered the Saldanha hydrothermal field at the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. She has been collaborating with different universities and research institutions around the world such as IFREMER (France); ETH (Switzerland); NOC (UK); University of Bergen (Norway); FCUL, IDL, IPMA, EMEPC (Portugal); GIGCAS, and SIO-SOA (China); and Curtin University (Australia). She is the author of several SCI research articles and supervised MSc and PhD students and post-doctoral researchers.
