Alexandre Faveiro Jesus is a PhD candidate at the University of Coimbra, where he enroled the Bachelor and Master's degrees in Industrial Engineering and Management, having completed his second cycle of studies at July 2021. His work is focused on Artificial Intelligence within Operations Research, namely in production scheduling problems. He has presented multiple conference works on integrated planning and scheduling and was part of the organizing committee of the XXI Congress of the Portuguese Association of Operational Research. Alexandre's work was distinguished at both national and international scale, mainly on the topics of simulation modeling, system analysis, and mathematical programming. Under a scholarship from Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia, he has collaborated in substantial projects within the national strategy for Portuguese industry, namely in the pharmaceutical, and other process industries. Currently he is practicing as an Invited Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Faculty of Science and Technology from University of Coimbra.

2019/09/01 - 2019/12/20 The competition challenged students to develop a decision-support tool for layout designing and staff planning of an airport, based on flights forecasts. Through an optimization-simulation approach, the airport's capacity was optimized, subject to constraints on capital, space and equipment. The project was awarded with the 3rd place out of 297 teams.
