Fernando J. T. E. Ferreira was born in Coimbra in 1975. He has a 5-year degree in Electrical Engineering (1998), an M.Sc. degree in Systems and Automation (2001), and a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering (2009) from the University of Coimbra (UC). Since 1998, he has been a Researcher at the Institute of Systems and Robotics (ISR), where he has participated in 9 European projects and co-supervised many research activities dealing with electric motor-driven systems. From 2001 to 2014, he was a professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering (DEE), Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra (IPC). From 2013 to 2014, he was president/director of the DEE-IPC. From 2014 to 2022, he was an Assistant Professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (DEEC), University of Coimbra (UC). In 2023, he was promoted to Associate Professor with Tenure at the DEEC-UC. In 2009, he was elevated to IEEE Senior Member. He was awarded the Energy Specialist title and the rank of Senior Member by the Portuguese Order of Engineers (OE) in 2010 and 2015, respectively. His main research fields are electrical machines and power electronics. In the last decade, he has focused his research on topics related to electric motors and generators, variable-speed drives, electric vehicle drivetrains, energy storage, and renewable energy systems. He is the author/co-author of over 150 papers published/presented in top international journals and conferences, 2 of which were awarded/distinguished in 2001 and 2010. According to Google Scholar, on 14.02.2024, he had an h-index of 32 and 4502 citations, which indicates a significant worldwide impact of its research activity. He was included in the 20022 and 2023 “World’s Top 2% Scientists Ranking” published by Standford University.
