Francesca Negro is independent researcher in Comparative Studies and performing arts. She has a M.A. in Italian Literature a Ph.D in Comparative Literature and a Masters degree in Performance Studies. She also owns a Masters Degree in Teaching Italian as second language (University of Genoa). She has taught at BA and MA levels both in Italy, Portugal, and provided pastoral and academic tuition and research supervision to BA and MA students. In 2007 she got a Post-doc fellowship which allowed her to start a long-lasting collaboration with CEC, and more specifically with groups THELEME and CITCOM, working respectively on Inter-art studies and Postcolonial Cultural studies and Literature. In 2014 She got a post-doc fellowship from King's College London to join the Project: Modern Moves: Kinetic Transnationalism and Afro-Diasporic Rhythm Cultures, with which she also collaborated afterwards as Research consultant. In the last few years she has been working at the University of Lisbon as Visiting Professor of Inter-artistic Comparative Studies and Intercultural communication, while also teaching Italian Language and Culture. She has developed teamwork and organizational skills in relation to organization of academic events and teaching curricula. She has also been invited as guest speaker in conferences and courses in Portugal, Italy, UK and US. In 2019 she published her first monograph "Deuses em Cena" on the theatricalization of religious dances of African origin in Cuba (Lisbon, Colibri: 2019), which is result of a long archive research and fieldwork in Havana and Santiago. She is co-author of two international articles on Afro-Brasilian Literature. She was co-organizer of the International Conference Oral Memory of Africans and People of African Descent (Lisbon, December 2019) and co-editor of the book deriving from the conference, which will be published by Palgrave macmillan in 2025. Other recent activities have been the edition of the collective volumes "Proust e As Artes" and the direction of a laboratory of translation at FLUL, which will have as outcome the Italian translation and critical edition of the volume "O Atlas do corpo e da Imaginação" by Gonçalo M. Tavares. She has been invited by the Theatre Art Imagem to present her work on this topic and to join the scientific commission for the study of Black theatre in Portugal (Porto 2022). In 2019 she has been invited to present her book "Deuses em cena" at the University of Rio de Janeiro, at the University of São João del Rei, at University Nove de Julho in São Paulo, as well as at the School of Art and Humanities and the Angolan Cultural Centre in Florence. She has also been invited as keynote speaker to academic events to expose her researches on the relationship between Dance-Theatre and Sociopolitical dynamics in the context of post-colonialism.
