––––– EDUCATION, AFFILIATION AND DISTINCTIONS ––––– Susana de Noronha is an Anthropologist and a Researcher at the Centre for Social Studies (CES) University of Coimbra, Portugal (Member of the Science, Economy and Society Research Group NECES). (Obtained the status of CES Associate, upon a favourable evaluation by the Scientific Council, and approved by unanimous vote at the General Assembly of the Centre for Social Studies on December 12, 2019) Winner of the 2003 Bernardino Machado Award for the best student (17.1/20 points) in Anthropology (BA/Licentiate degree), Faculty of Sciences and Technology, University of Coimbra. She holds a Master and a Ph.D. in Sociology (maximum grades) from the Faculty of Economics of the same University, winning the 2007 CES Award for Young Portuguese-speaking Social Scientists with her Master’s dissertation, and unanimously approved with distinction and praise (summa cum laude) with her doctoral thesis in 2012. She had positive evaluation and funding from the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) in her Master, Doctoral and Postdoctoral research projects. ––––– SCIENTIFIC AND CREATIVE OUTPUTS ––––– Single-author of three pioneering books regarding the depiction of cancer experiences in the visual and plastic arts, her working field since 2005. She is also the single-author of several book chapters and journal articles in Portuguese, English and Spanish, doing peer-review for six indexed international scientific journals. She is also an editorial board member of two open access publications funded by the European Research Council (ERC). She is a published lyricist and author of more than fifty scientific illustrations, using ethnographic drawing and painting, blending social science with the visual arts. ––––– TEACHING AND SUPERVISION ––––– She has a substantial teaching experience, collaborating with several Bachelor, Master and Doctoral programs, being also a coordinator, lecturer and tutor of an e-learning seminar focused on health and illness, included in an international course assembled by the Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO) and CES. She supervises MA dissertations, Ph.D. theses and also Ph.D. and postdoctoral internships of students and researchers enrolled in her fields of expertise, also using her proficiency in creative methodologies to coordinate and mentor advanced training courses. ––––– ACTIVITIES ––––– Co-organizer of several roundtables, seminar cycles, workshops, summer schools and international conferences, she has delivered more than sixty single authored oral presentations, twenty by invitation, thirty in peer-reviewed panels of scientific meetings, and eighteen to non-academic publics as an invited speaker, also reaching the Media as an interviewee in newspapers and large audience television networks and programs, doing science with and for society.
