Luca Manucci received his PhD in Democracy Studies from the University of Zurich in 2018. His thesis titled "Populism and Collective Memory: Comparing Fascist Legacies in Western Europe" has been published in 2020 by Routledge. He holds a Master in Mass Media and Politics (2012) and a Bachelor in Communication Science (2009) from the University of Bologna. In 2010-11 he spent the academic year at the Université Libre de Bruxelles, and during his PhD has visited the Central European University (Budapest) and the Diego Portales University (Santiago de Chile). He has previously worked as a research assistant at the NCCR Democracy project in Zurich. Between 2019 and 2022, he has been a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Lisbon (Institute of Social Sciences), in the project POPULUS: Rethinking populism. In 2021 he wins the 4th Individual Call to Scientific Employment Stimulus (2021.03609.CEECIND), and in 2022 he receives FCT funding for his project about the Iberian far right titled POLAR: "Back to the future? Populism and the Legacies of Authoritarian Regimes" (2022.03115.PTDC). His research interests include populism, party politics, political communication, and collective memory. His research has been published in international journals such as West European Politics, Swiss Political Science Review, Acta Politica, European Politics and Society, Nations and Nationalism, Political Research Exchange, and Italian Political Science Review, as well as in several edited volumes for Oxford University Press, Palgrave, and others. His blog on populism has received two awards for its capacity to reach audiences beyond academia and communicate the findings of current research on populism to a broader public.
