Eduardo V. Soares (EVS) is graduated in Pharmaceutical Sciences from Faculty of Pharmacy of University of Porto (UP), Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences - Microbiology by Institute of Biomedical Sciences Abel Salazar (ICBAS-UP), and obtained the Habilitation in Chemical and Biological Engineering by School of Engineering of Minho University. Currently, EVS is Coordinator Professor with Habilitation at ISEP-School of Engineering of Polytechnic Institute of Porto (where he was an elected member of the scientific-technical council for the 2020-22 and 2022-24 biennium), researcher at Centre of Biological Engineering - Minho University, and collaborator of the Center for Innovation in Industrial Engineering and Technology, at ISEP. His main current research activities includes: ecotoxicology and effect of environmental contaminants (emerging organic pollutants and engineered nanoparticles) on algae and yeast physiology and metabolism; mode of action of pollutants; development and application of bioassays to assess aquatic pollution; development of bio-based solutions for sustainable agriculture, namely biological production of biodegradable siderophores. During his research career, EVS is author or co-author of 75 papers in ISI journals, in which 70 % are Q1/Q2 journals (source: ISI Web of Science; July 2025), 3 book chapters, and 2 editorials. Times cited: 2923; H-index: 30 (source: Scopus, July 2025). EVS participated on evaluation panels of International Scientific Agencies, was reviewer ISI Journals and Associate Editor of the journals: Scientific Reports - Microbiology section (2024 impact factor: 3.9; Q1), Toxics - Ecotoxicology section (2024 impact factor: 4.1; Q1), Frontiers in Plant Science - Plant nutrition section (2024 impact factor: 4.8; Q1), and Scientifica - Biotechnology section (2024 impact factor: 3.1; Q2). In 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024, studies published in the journal PLOS Biology and by Elsevier, included his name in the list of the 2% of the most influential scientists in the world.
