PAULINA PIAIRO is a Research Fellow at the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL) in Braga, Portugal (2019-now). She works at the Department of Life Sciences, within the Medical Devices group. Currently involved in the European project Safe-N-Medtech (ID 814607) focused on building safety testing related to bioengineering and nanotechnology to be applied to medical technologies for health, and closely related to regulation and quality standards from the European Commission. She holds a Bachelor in Applied Biology by Universidade do Minho and at the same academy was attributed an FCT funded PhD Fellowship in Health Sciences to carry out research in developmental biology at the Life and Health Sciences Research Institute (ICVS). She has experience in translational oncobiology research, previously worked in a collaborative project between Instituto de Medicina Molecular (IMM, Lisbon, PT) and INL focused on the clinical validation of a microfluidic device for the isolation and characterization of circulating tumour cells towards cancer progression monitoring, patient stratification and therapeutic selection. She has authored 9 peer reviewed publications. She has also been involved in innovation programs in Braga and Berlin and takes on COO functions at RUBYnanomed (2018-now).
