Tânia Cova completed the degree in Industrial Chemistry from the University of Coimbra in 2009, obtained her MSc degree in Chemistry in 2011, specialized in Quality Control and Environment. In 2018, she obtained a Doctorate degree in Chemistry at the same University, specialized in Macromolecular Chemistry, with several contributions in the areas of supramolecular and computational chemistry, and data science. She was awarded a Junior Researcher contract under the 2nd edition of the Individual Call to Scientific Employment Stimulus 2018 assigned by FCT, and started working at CCC/UC in July 2020. She was also awarded a Ph.D. Transition Fellowship (10000 eur) assigned by EIT Health in 2018 intended to support the exploitation of an innovative idea related to the design and production of a targeted transdermal device integrating multifunctional nanocarriers for treating advanced melanoma. She brings together vast experience in computational modeling and simulation applied to pharmaceutical formulation design, and optimization, standing out in the areas of nanotechnology. She is a team member of the NanoLIP- 01/SAICT/2021 project, which aims to provide a more robust proof of concept for the antitumor efficacy data associated with the development of nanomedicines for the treatment of glioblastoma and to promote the transition (TRL3 to TRL6) to a manufacturing process for ultra-small nanostructured lipid carriers that will enable translation to industrial scale. She has performed computational studies of polyelectrolyte arrangements, including DNA-origami type and aptamer-containing chains, and also aptamer- and peptide-carbohydrate conjugates as a new strategy to Improve pollutant and drug recognition, and tumor targeting. The main contributions are included in 9 book chapters, 38 scientific articles (h-index 19), 1 international patent (WO/2021/111364A1), 1 book edition, 1 manual, 4 special issue editions as Guest Editor, 31 oral communications in scientific conferences, 21 conference posters, 6 event organizations, and other ad hoc missions for knowledge transfer directed to undergraduate students. She has received 6 awards and/or honors. She lectured courses in General Chemstry, Chemometrics and Pattern Recognition and Statistical and Multivariate Analysis in R (with 14 completed editions since 2015), at the University of Coimbra, and (co)supervised several MSc and BSc theses. She has also been involved as a jury member, in the organization of international meetings, and in several outreach activities for knowledge transfer directed to undergraduate students. She has developed modeling approaches for understanding the factors that govern the formation of supramolecular nanostructures for drug delivery and water remediation, resorting to atomistic simulations, free-energy calculations and machine learning. The main topics gathered different aspects in quantifying host-guest binding, but her research interests include also the design of coarse-grained models for polyelectrolyte systems and polymer networks for drug delivery and contaminant removal in environmental matrices, and timely topics of machine learning and data science addressing multivariate bio/chemical data. She was a research fellow of ERA-NET ProWsper-WaterJPI/006/2016, in which she implemented data science tools for rationalizing and predicting physical-chemical properties and thermodynamic signatures from simulation results of systems directed at removing phytopharmaceutical compounds from water. She was nominated MC member of COST Action CA19145 - (SensorFINT - European Network to ensure food integrity using non-destructive spectral sensors) involving 27 countries. She is an expert evaluator for the European Commission Horizon Europe programme.
