Rute Almeida has a contract as the Principal Investigator at RISE Health REsearch Network, From the Lab to the Community, while researcher at CINTESIS - Center for Health Technology and Services Research (since 2016). She is with the PaCeIT - Patient Centered Innovation and Technologies group and colaborates closely with 2D4H – Secondary Data for Healthcare Research group. She is currently part of HfPT - Health From Portugal, WAI - Wellbeing@Artificial Inteligence, RM4HEALTH Remote Monitoring in Health and Sports (ITEA4) and CATALYSE - Climate Action To Advance HeaLthY Societies in Europe project teams. She has been involved in over 25 competitive projects, some of which with international research teams, being the most recent BBAI: Brain Behavior analysis using the most advanced Artificial Intelligence and Computer Vision, mINSPIRE - mHealth to measure and improve adherence to medication in chronic obstructive respiratory diseases: generalisation and evaluation of gamification, peer support and advanced image processing technologies, AIRDOC: Smart Mobile Application for Individualized Support and Monitoring of the Respiratory Function and Sounds of Chronic Obstructive Patients and PHE-Personal Health Empowerment (ITEA3) projects. After concluding her PhD in Applied Mathematics at University of Porto (UP, in collaboration with the I3A - Inst. Investig. Ingeniería de Aragón , Spain, with European recognition and homologated by University of Zaragoza) she was a PhD fellow at the Biomedical Research Networking center in Bioengineering, Biomaterials and Nanomedicine (CIBER-BBN), Spain (2007-2012) and at CMUP (Ciencia 2007 program, 2012-2016). She is a member of CMUP since 2005 and she also collaborates with the Bsicos group (Biomedical Signal Interpretation and Computational Simulation) I3A. She is member of the Mask Study Group, considered by the European Union DG Santé good practice of digital health, collaborating with the Mask using a Mask-AIR patient-centred mobile health app for patients to monitor their rhinitis and asthma control, which is recognized as medical Device. She is member of the Inspirers Group, responsible by setting and executing the Inspirers studies, regarding adherence to medication on asthma. She has been working in biomedical data analysis and digital health since 2000, when she graduated in Mathematics Applied to Technology (UP). In particular, she has collaborated actively in the implementation and enhancement of a new wavelet transform based electrocardiogram (ECG) delineation system (still part of the actual state of the art), cardiac series variability modeling to assess autonomic nervous system, observational studies, medical data statistical analysis, mHealth systems development, respiratory frequency extraction and sound analysis. She coauthored over 90 publications in indexed supports, cited over 1300 times. She was a member of the program and/or scientific committees of 20 plus scientific conferences and reviewed over 250 submissions to 30 different scientific sources. She was an external expert on Medical and Health Sciences field a the Commission for the Assessment of Applications for the attribution of Exceptional Grants for Mitigating the Impacts of COVID-19 on Research Activities. She was co-supervisor of two successful PhD candidates and current is supervisor or co-supervisor of 4 PhD students. Acted as supervisor in another more than 10 occasions (grantees, master and under graduated students). She taught in Higher Education in several occasions since 1999 at UP, UZ and University of Minho.
