Stephanie Alves is an Assistant Professor at the School of Psychology and Life Sciences, Lusófona University (Lisbon) and an integrated member of the research unit HEI-Lab: Digital Human-Environment Interaction Labs, classified as Excellent in the last FCT evaluation. She completed a master’s degree in clinical and health psychology at the University of Coimbra (2013) and hold a PhD degree in Clinical Psychology at the same university in 2019. Her PhD research integrated clinical psychology, family science, and advanced dyadic methodologies to examine how relational processes influence parental mental health during the transition to parenthood. She has been a member of the Relationships, Development and Health (RD&H) research group researcher at the Center for Research in Neuropsychology and Cognitive Behavioral Intervention (CINEICC) of the University of Coimbra since 2009. Between 2013 and 2018 she collaborated as a clinical psychologist at the Psychological Intervention Unit (UnIP) of the Maternity Daniel de Matos (CHUC, E.P.E - Coimbra). From 2019, her work has expanded to the development, adaptation, and evaluation of evidence-based interventions, with a focus on couple-related processes (namely dyadic coping), parental mental health, child’s development, and child protection. She has contributed to major applied research projects addressing vulnerable family contexts, including family foster care and adoption, leading research to practice translation activities. At ProChild CoLAB (2020–2022), she coordinated interdisciplinary teams to develop and evaluate the Integrated Model of Family Foster Care (MIAF®) and collaborated in the implementation’s evaluation of the Child Preparation Program for Adoption (PPCA). She is the co-Principal Investigator of the ongoing project All4Children - The Integrated Model of Family Foster Care (MIAF®) to promote high-quality child welfare practices in Portugal, funded by FCT (2022.03592.PTDC), and the principal investigator of the project TIK-PT: Promoting parental and children mental health through emotion-focused parenting programs: Adaptation, implementation, and evaluation of Tuning in to Kids® in Portugal, targeting particularly socially disadvantaged families, and funded by Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian (Growing Minds nº335706; 2025-2027). She collaborates in the Mindful Families project, promoted by CINEICC, and is a member of the project Empowering adoptive parents to promote the well-being of their children, funded by Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian. Her work emphasizes translating scientific evidence into scalable interventions and policy-relevant practices that promote family well-being and child development. She has authored peer-reviewed publications, presented widely at international conferences, and actively participates in international research networks (e.g., COST Action CA22114 - Maternal Perinatal Stress and Adverse Outcomes in the Offspring: Maximizing infants´ development [TREASURE]). Alongside her research, she teaches and supervises master’s and doctoral students in Clinical and Health Psychology and maintains clinical practice as a psychologist at CresSer, a multidisciplinary therapeutic center providing coordinated, interdisciplinary care for children, adolescents, and adults with neurodevelopmental disorders, learning difficulties, behavioral problems, and socio-emotional challenges.
