Martina Dourado Gonçalves graduated in Medicinal Biotechnology at the School of Health of the Polytechnic Institute of Porto in 2021 and obtained a master's degree in Oncology at the Abel Salazar Biomedical Sciences Institute of University of Porto in 2023. During her master's, Martina developed her dissertation at the Experimental Pathology and Therapeutics Group (IPO-Porto), under the supervision of Doctor Andreia Peixoto, Doctor José Alexandre Ferreira and Professor Lúcio Lara Santos. Her dissertation focused on characterizing the functional glycoproteomics implications of gastric cancer cells expressing short-chain O-glycans. Throughout her master's degree, she developed expertise in a wide range of cell culture methodologies, including CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing, flow cytometry, immunocytochemistry and functional assays in vitro. Additionally, she acquired proficiency in molecular biology techniques such as SDS-Page, Western Blot, Reverse Transcription PCR, and extraction of DNA, RNA, and proteins from cell lines. Martina also delved into proteomics and glycoproteomics techniques, including advanced mass spectrometry. Throughout her academic journey, she has consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to scientific dissemination, presenting her findings through oral communications and poster presentations. Notably, she received an honorable mention at the 1st Young Researcher's Day and an award for the best oral presentation at IJUP 2024. Moreover, she has participated in other projects that have resulted in the publication of five papers. Martina has a strong passion for sharing science, which has driven her to participate in several scientific dissemination events focused on younger audiences. In this context, she has been actively involved in workshops and the development of educational activities, fostering a deeper understanding and engagement with science.
