Rachid Omira is currently a Senior Researcher (Investigador Principal) at the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) and integrated researcher at the Faculty of Sciences (IDL-FCUL), Lisbon University. He graduated in physics and holds a PhD in Geophysics. His expertise is in numerical modeling of seismic and non-seismic tsunamis and related coastal risk. He is the first author and co-author of 45 peer-reviewed international scientific publications. He also published 4 book chapters, 12 proceedings, gave 15 invited talks and professional training, and his work was presented in more than 70 conferences. He has also developed number of studies concerning regional assessments of tsunami hazard. His research has led to a major contribution on the understanding of tsunami hazard and vulnerability and served the development of an end-to-end national tsunami warning system, recently implemented at IPMA. He led and participated in several national and international scientific projects and supervised a number of research works. He is editor of Natural Hazards and Earth System Sciences ISI Journal.
