Inês Filipa Cigarro Morão

Inês Morão holds a PhD in Biology and Ecology of Global Changes from Faculty of Science of the University of Lisbon and developing all the work in Polytechnic University of Leiria. Her scientific interests are ecotoxicology, marine biology, conservation and biomarker tools. Her journey into marine conservation began during her undergraduate studies when she first encountered sea turtles in São Tomé. This experience she assisted local NGOs in São Tomé and Príncipe, focusing on the awareness and conservation of sea turtles in their nesting areas. For her MSc thesis, Inês Morão collected tissue samples from turtles for molecular analysis, aiming to assess the impact of metal contamination on the health and fitness of these populations. Continuing this research into her PhD, she is further investigating the health of sea turtle populations. Despite her relatively short time in scientific research, she performed 5 oral presentations in congress (ICYMARE and SETAC) and some lectures/talks in Portugal and also in São Tomé and Príncipe. Her work includes collecting and analyzing sea turtle tissue samples to evaluate pollution levels and their effects on the animals' health. Inês Morão is also actively involved in the scientific community, contributing to the organization of the ICYMARE conference in Germany and being a member of OYSTER (Orienting Young ScienTists of EuromaRine)
