João Alves is a Mechanical Engineer who graduated in 2021 from the Escola Superior Náutica Infante D. Henrique with a degree in Maritime Machinery Engineering with an average of 15 points and completed his master's degree in Mechanical Engineering at the Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon in 2023 with an average of 17 points. His dissertation entitled "Models for Predicting the Fatigue Life of the Ti6Al4V Alloy, Obtained by Additive Manufacturing" obtained a grade of 20. During the second year of his Master's degree, he won a Research Initiation Scholarship, funded by the IPL/2022/MEVSISMAN_ISEL/BII/5M project, "Life Extension Methodology for Complex Systems in Maintenance 4.0". This research allowed the candidate to disseminate scientific results at three conferences, namely: XIII Meeting of Quality Researchers - RIQUAL2023 with two presentations, 4th International Conference on Quality Innovation and Sustainability - ICQIS2023 with one presentation and 5th International Conference on Technologies for the Wellbeing and Sustainable Manufacturing Solutions - TechMA2023 with one presentation. It also led to the production of four scientific articles with the titles: (1) "Influence of manufacturing defects on life fatigue prediction of a Ti-6Al-4V alloy, manufactured by SLM" in an indexed journal and in the process of being published, (2) "Development of a Life Prediction Model of Ti-6Al-4V alloy" in an indexed journal and already published, (3) "Analysis of the plastic behaviour and micro-hardness of a Ti-6Al-4V alloy produced by SLM" already published, (4) "Developed a TRIZ-Lean Methodology in Portuguese Navy Complex Systems" in an indexed journal and in the process of being published. In the transition between his Master's and PhD, João Alves remained active in research, having submitted three articles to indexed journals, which have already been accepted for publication, with the titles: (1) "Machine Learning applied to Lifespan extension and waste reduction of mechanical components obtained by SLM", (2) "Sustainability of Selective Laser Melting process", (3) "The transformation of maintenance with the arise of industry 4.0", (4) And an article, still awaiting acceptance for publication, entitled "Defects intrinsic to the additive manufacturing process". For future work, before the start of the PhD programme, three oral presentations are planned at the 5th International Conference on Quality Innovation and Sustainability - ICQIS2024, and the XIV Meeting of Quality Researchers - RIQUAL2024.
