Dr. Manuel Garcia-Herreros, DVM, MSc (Hons), PhD (Hons), is currently a senior researcher focused on Livestock Production Systems in the National Institute for Agricultural and Veterinary Research (INIAV, Portugal). His research interests over the last 20 years include animal science with emphasis on animal health and production, animal reproduction, livestock farming and breeding, animal biotechnology, livestock health, bioinformatics, germplasm conservation, molecular biology in farm animals, and dairy science. He has extensive experience handling and analyzing large real datasets, including molecular-derived data, as well as conducting association and genomic selection studies in dairy livestock. Recipient of 6 international Research Awards, author/co-author of around 100 scientific publications (peer-reviewed journals) and 3 book chapters. Scientific advisory committee member of 9 countries (Europe and Central/South America). He has lecturing experiences in Brazil, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, and Uruguay. Manuel has supervised more than 30 dissertations, 3 of whom were PhD students. Active reviewer for more than 80 international peer-reviewed journals and editor of 10 indexed journals in Animal Science. External expert in the evaluation of research projects and grants for various international organisations (Europe and the Americas). Securing external funding through international projects and scientific collaboration with over 50 international institutions and companies.
