Filipe Marques is currently Assistant Professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of Minho (UM). He has concluded his master's degree in Mechanical Engineering at UM, in 2015, with a final grade of 18 out of 20 (best grade). During his academic path, Filipe received several prizes and scholarships awarding his academic performance. In 2016, Filipe was awarded with a PhD grant for the doctoral program of Leaders for Technical Industries under the context of MIT Portugal Program at UM. His PhD work resulted from a cooperation with Instituto Superior Técnico (Portugal) and Politecnico di Milano (Italy), it was focused on the wheel-rail contact interaction and resulted in the development of state-of-the-art methodologies to perform dynamic simulations of railway vehicles. Filipe concluded his doctoral studies in November 2020, with a grade "Very Good" (maximum) and distinguished with the "Lagrange Award, Springer Outstanding Thesis Prize on Multibody Dynamics 2020". His research and development activities led to several prolific collaborations with other institutions, namely Instituto Superior Técnico, Politecnico di Milano, Institute of Railway Research, Wichita State University, Universidad de Cantabria, among others. In 2017, the candidate has been six months as visiting scholar at Politecnico di Milano, working the modeling of wheel-rail contact mechanics. More recently, in 2020, Filipe was representing UM at an international benchmark for simulation of railway vehicles with switches and crossings, in which the software was partially developed during his PhD work. In the last few years, he have been developing some research on biomechanics of human motion, mainly related with development of biomechanical models focusing on the utilization of mobility-assisted devices. The main areas of interest and research are contact mechanics, multibody dynamics, wheel-rail contact, biomechanics of movement, design of medical devices, gears, friction and numerical methods. Filipe has been presenting his work on the most recognized conferences of this field (14 presentations) and publishing in highly ranked international journals. Thus, the work developed has resulted in a wide number of publications, namely 23 ISI journal papers, 26 conference papers, 15 abstracts in conferences, 6 posters and 12 book chapters, most of them as first authors. The quality of his work is reflected in his h-index, which is currently 14 in Scopus with 1120 citations, and by the several distinctions received by the scientific community. Filipe was Principal Investigator at a bilateral project Portugal-Tunisia, and he has been participating as researcher in other funded projects. Currently, he is responsible by the supervision of 2 PhD students and 10 Master students. Filipe serves as Associate Editor of Mechanism and Machine Theory Journal (Q1), which Impact Factor is 5.2, and has been strongly involved in peer-review activities, since he has reviewed more than 300 papers for 36 different ISI journals. Filipe has been also involved in the organization of several scientific and academic events during the past years. Filipe has been lecturing in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at UM since 2014. The courses taught belong to the Bachelor and Master's in Mechanical Engineering, Bachelor and Master's in Biomedical Engineering, Bachelor's in Aerospace Engineering, Master's in Mechatronics Engineering and Master's in Product Engineering. The candidate lectures Drawing and Graphical Representation, Machine Elements I, Machine Elements II, Tribology, Dynamics of Mechanical Systems and Computer Aided Engineering. In the context of these pedagogical activities, Filipe coauthored 2 books, several pedagogical texts, support material and 2 informatic applications for some curricular units. He is currently the coordinator of the Master's Programme in Product Engineering.
