Diogo Silva da Cunha is a researcher at CoLABOR – Collaborative Laboratory for Labour, Employment and Social Protection, with integration in the research line Transformations and Dynamics in Employment. He’s Guest Assistant Professor of Sociological Theories at ISCTE-IUL since 2024. He is project coordinator for the development of CoLABOR’s tool JOBS – Jobs and Occupations Based Search. He is a doctoral candidate in Philosophy of Science, specializing in Science and Society, at the University of Lisbon, with the support of a Doctoral Scholarship from the Foundation for Science and Technology (PD/BD/135240/2017), extended through exceptional measure (COVID/BD/152011/2021). He is integrated, as a doctoral student, in the research group “LIFE – Life Course, Inequality and Solidarity: Practices and Policies” of the Institute of Social Sciences of the University of Lisbon, also participating in the group “Empires, Colonialism and Post-colonial Societies”. He completed a degree in Journalism at the School of Communication and Media Studies of the Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon. He holds a master’s degree in History and Philosophy of Sciences from the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon, having presented a dissertation entitled Process and Social Reality. Towards a reconstruction of the theoretical core of Norbert Elias’s process-relational research program. He has complementary training in Communication Sciences, Sociology of Knowledge, Philosophy of Technology, Social Studies of Science and Technology, Political Economy, and Web Preservation, acquired in the context of several higher education institutions. He was a collaborator at the Center for Philosophy of Sciences at the University of Lisbon, having been part of the research group “Philosophy of Technology, Human Sciences, Art and Society”. In 2017, he participated in the project on “The Press and the Digital Edition of Information”, organized and financed by the Portuguese Regulatory Authority for the Media. In the same year, he was a Science and Technology Management Fellow at the Foundation for National Scientific Computing of the Foundation for Science and Technology, as part of a research into digital preservation and the transformation of the presence of Portuguese newspapers on the web. He was also Assistant to Professor José Luís Garcia in the discipline of Sociology of Health of the Degree in Health Sciences at the University of Lisbon during the academic years 2017/2018, 2018/2019 and 2019/2020. Diogo Silva da Cunha’s research interests are mainly related to epistemology, social theory, foundations of social sciences, communication, theory of history, the articulation between economic and technological transformation, scientific policies, the universe of media and journalism, digital technologies, the contemporary mutation of work, and health care systems, with incidence on the disciplinary fields of Philosophy, Sociology, History and Political Economy. It is in these areas that communications at congresses, colloquia and other scientific meetings and the publications he has made are included. He is the author of the report Transformations of the Portuguese Newspaper Web Presence (1996- 2016): Correio da Manhã, Diário de Notícias, Expresso and Público and one of the authors of the book O Choque Tecno-liberal, os Media e o Jornalismo. Estudos Críticos sobre a Realidade Portuguesa [The Techno-liberal Shock, the Media and Journalism. Critical Studies on the Portuguese Reality], Almedina, 2020. His latest publication is the article “A New Time of Reckoning, a Time for New Reckoning: Views on Health and Society, Tensions between Medicine and the Social Sciences, and the Process of Medicalization”, published in the journal Societies.
