Igor Resende is a dedicated biological engineer, with a strong research-oriented mindset. Despite his recent graduation (July 2022), he has already 2 years of experience working in the field of nucleic acid mimics (NAMs) to kill and detect bacteria, that he acquired through several research experiences endeavoured at the same time he was studying. In 2020, he concluded his bachelor's degree in Engineering Sciences - Bioengineering at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP) and the Institute of Biomedical Sciences Abel Salazar (ICBAS), with a final classification of 16. Afterward, he proceeded to a master's in Bioengineering (specialization in Biological Engineering) at FEUP, completed in 2022 with a final classification of 18. As a master's student, he had the opportunity to be enrolled for one year within the scope of the project DelNAM - "Strengthening the research area of delivery of nucleic acid mimics into bacteria to fight the antibiotic crisis" at the Laboratory for Process Engineering, Environment, Biotechnology and Energy (LEPABE). During the last semester of this degree, he had the opportunity to proceed with his previous work for his master's thesis entitled "Nucleic Acid Mimics Delivery in Bacteria Towards Fighting Antibiotic Resistance Crisis", achieving a final grade of 19. Additionally, Igor has voluntarily carried out a summer internship integrated into the microbiology laboratory of Silliker Portugal S. A. - Merieux NutriSciences. Since October 2022, he has worked as a researcher at LEPABE, first under a project dealing with bacterial detection by NAMs, using Fluorescence in situ Hybridization (FISH) and fluorescence spectroscopy, and currently under a project related to the implementation of NAM-based strategies against Salmonella spp.. Finally, during these years, Igor has participated in different events: 4th SPLC-CRS Young Scientists Meeting: Delivering Science, Bridging Opportunities organized by the Spanish Portuguese Local Chapter of the Controlled Release Society, where he had the opportunity to present a poster as a first author; 1st Drug Delivery in Microbial Cells (DDMiC) Conference, where he was the second author of one oral communication; 5th Doctoral Congress In Engineering organized by FEUP, where he was an attendant and participated in a workshop about preventing emotional exhaustion. He was also the second author of another oral communication at SurfSAFE's Training School 1: "Evaluation of surface performance" and a poster at the XIV Spanish-Portuguese Conference on Controlled Drug Delivery. Recently, he was the tutor of a lecturer from the Agricultural University of Tirana. Furthermore, he took additional training through courses in project management (Portuguese Association of Industrial Engineering and Management, APGEI), and in English (acquiring B2 level, as certified by the Cambridge English Language Assessment).
