Filipe Jacinto completed his doctoral studies in Molecular Oncobiology at the Faculty of Medicine of Porto University, Portugal. His pre-doctoral training was conducted in one of the most prestigious europeans institutions in cancer research, the Spanish National Cancer Center, where under the supervision of Dr. Manel Esteller, considered one of the leaders in the field of Cancer Epigenetics, has identified novel tumor supressor genes hypermethylated in colorectal cancer and provided new insights into the interplay between histone modifications and DNA methylation. FIlipe was trained as a post-doc at the SALK Institute for Biological Sciences (San Diego, USA) under the supervision of Dr. Martin Hetzer, a leading expert in the field of Nuclear Organisation and Function, where he identified that specific nucleoporines, know by their function as mediators of nuclear export could also have additional roles in transcription and play as important mediators of the pluripotent state of embryonic stem cells. He is the author of 12 peer-reviewed publications and 1286 citations (Scopus h-index 12). In 2015 he has returned to Portugal to study Medicine at the Algarve University. In 2021, he started his Medical Internship in Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery at the University Hospital Center of Algarve. He ia also an invited assistant Professor at University of Algarve in the Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences since 2020.
