Sandra Hilário is graduated in Agronomic Engineering in 2012 from the Polytechnic Institute of Viseu, completed her Master's Degree in Microbiology in 2017 and her Ph.D. degree in Biology in 2023 (specialization in Microbiology) at the University of Aveiro. The excellence of her academic path was recognized by the endowment of a merit scholarship. She has also received 3 awards for "Best Business Plan" presented in national entrepreneurship contests, with a patent registration between 2011 and 2022. Most of her research is focused on microbial diversity, mycology, taxonomy, molecular evolution, phylogenetics, plant physiology and biochemistry, bioinformatics and fungal genomics. During her academic path, she took part in national and international conferences where she authored and coauthored 8 posters and 10 oral communications, wining 2 awards for best oral communication. She has also participated in dissemination activities to school students (e.g. Summer Academy and International Microorganism Day). She attended 4 advanced courses and was invited as a speaker in 1 advanced course in "Bioinformatics for Microbiologists" and in classes of undergraduate (Phytopathology discipline) and master students (Evolution and Microbial Diversity discipline). Since 2019, she has published 22 articles (10 as 1st author) in international peer reviewed journals and 2 encyclopedia entries. The recognition of her work is supported by more than 120 citations and an h-index of 6. She is also an invited reviewer in 14 international journals, co-guest editor for Microorganisms (MDPI) and assistant editor for Frontiers in Fungal Biology (Frontiers Media S.A.). Tutored and gave assistance to 5 MSc students, 1 PhD and 3 undergraduate students. Recently, she was awarded with an honorable mention by the Portuguese Society of Microbiology and an Early Career Scientist Grant offered by the Federation of European Microbiological Societies.
