João Pedro F. Trovão (Senior Member, IEEE and OE, and Member, OIQ) received both his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Coimbra, Portugal, in 2004 and 2013, respectively. He began his career as a Teaching Assistant and is currently a Professor at the Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra – Coimbra Institute of Engineering (IPC–ISEC) in Portugal. Since 2014, Dr. Trovão has also served as a Visiting Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada, where he holds the prestigious Canada Research Chair in Efficient Electric Vehicles with Hybridized Energy Storage Systems. He is the Founding Member and Director of the Electric Transport, Energy Storage, and Conversion (e-TESC) Lab at the University of Sherbrooke. Throughout his career, Dr. Trovão has led and contributed to numerous international projects, developing advanced energy management solutions and improving powertrain efficiency for electric vehicles. His extensive research contributions include over 110 journal articles and more than 150 conference papers, and his work has been recognized with several awards, such as the Best Paper Award at the IEEE VPPC in 2019 and 2023 and the IET Premium Award in 2022. Dr. Trovão has also played key roles in IEEE conferences, serving as General Chair of the 2018 IEEE Vehicle Power and Propulsion Conference in Chicago, IL, USA; as TPC Chair of the 2024 conference in Washington, DC, USA; and as TPC Co-Chair for the 2014 and 2017 conferences in Coimbra, Portugal, and Belfort, France, respectively. Additionally, he chaired the IEEE Motor Vehicles Challenge in both 2021 and 2022. In terms of editorial contributions, Dr. Trovão has served as a Guest Editor for special issues of IET Electrical Systems in Transportation (focusing on energy storage and electric power subsystems for advanced vehicles) and IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology (covering electric powertrains for future vehicles and advanced propulsion systems). He is also a Senior Editor for Automotive Electronics at the IEEE Vehicular Technology Magazine, since Dec. 2019.
