Inês Sofia Batista Vala Silva de Oliveira obtained her PhD in Cellular Biology in 2011, while she worked at the angiogenesis Unit of iMM. While developing her project, with the tittle "Effects of low-dose ionizing radiation on angiogenesis.", she acquired experience in the field ionizing radiation, angiogenesis, laboratory animal models (rodent and zebrafish) and several molecular and cellular techniques, such as: qRT-PCR, western, immunofluorescence, flow cytometry, cell culture and ELISA, among others. In 2011, she became the director of the Department of Scientific Program and Events at Ciência Viva and is still enthusiastic about science communication to this day. Currently she is a Post-doctoral Junior Researcher at the Angiogenesis Unit of CCUL and, since 2019, an Assistant Professor at Lusófona University in the field of Biology, Genetics and Bioethics. She has a particular interest in studying angiogenesis regulation, its clinical applications, and the use of low doses of ionizing radiation to promote therapeutic angiogenesis. Moreover, she is also involved in understanding the effect of moderate to high doses of ionizing radiation on cardiovascular function. She believes that both research institutions, schools, museums, and cultural organizations should be cross-sectional spaces for sharing knowledge and ideas, accessible to all audiences, and that emphasize values such as knowledge, experimentation, co- creation, participation, innovation, critical thinking and impartiality.
