André Fadiga is currently pursuing a PhD in Industrial Engineering and Management at the University of Coimbra and is a researcher of the Centre for Mechanical Engineering, Materials and Processes (CEMMPRE, which has been evaluated as an excellent R&D unit in the last FCT evaluation) and of the Advanced Production and Intelligent Systems Associated Laboratory (ARISE). André Fadiga graduated with a Master’s (2023) and Bachelor’s (2021) degrees in Industrial and Management Engineering from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Coimbra. During his Master’s, he also spent 6 months as an Erasmus+ student at the University of Technology and Economics of Budapest, Hungary. During his curricular path, André Fadiga was distinguished among the 5% best students at the University of Coimbra in the academic years of 2020/2021 and 2022/2023. As a researcher, he has been working since March 2023 on a research project financed by Portugal's Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), aimed at decarbonizing the Port of Sines (the biggest maritime port in Portugal). Since then, André Fadiga has already published an article in a peer-reviewed journal (Journal of Cleaner Production), developed several conference articles (two of them already presented and two others already accepted at EurOMA 2025, a major forum in the field of Operations and Supply Chain Management (OSCM)), one conference poster, and several conference and seminar presentations. One of those presentations includes his participation in the EDEN Doctoral Seminar in Sustainable Supply Chains, held by EADA Business School in Barcelona, Spain. These experiences were crucial to support his current efforts in researching supply chain decarbonization from the perspective of the OSCM field. Besides his technical research skills resulting from his academic experience and background, André Fadiga has also looked to develop his soft skills (e.g., communication, organization, time management) through his participation in several associative initiatives. Some of those associations are Linha SOS Estudante, Associação Pollux – Tecnologias do Espaço, and IEEE Student Branch of the University of Coimbra. The activities he was responsible for include contact with students, public institutions, and companies, organization of events related to energy and sustainability, and management tasks (team/people management, financial treasury tasks, and strategic planning/supervision, among others). Regarding industrial experience and during his training (Bachelor's and Master’s), André Fadiga has done two curricular internships. In one of them, André Fadiga participated in a project to assess the sustainability of a supply chain for promotional products (core business of the company), where his responsibility was to identify the leading suppliers in terms of volume and value.
