During her BSc in Agricultural Engineering (Agroforestry Biotechnology), Rocío Pineda-Martos (RPM) was research collaborator student in several Departments at the School of Agricultural and Forestry Engineering (ETSIAM) in the University of Córdoba (UCO), and the Institute for Sustainable Agriculture, State Agency for Scientific Research (IAS-CSIC). Later, she continued her research training at the IAS-CSIC developing studies leading to her MSc in Plant Production, Protection and Breeding. After gained a Predoctoral Fellowship from the CSIC, she defended her International PhD in 2014 with a funded six-months research stay at the University of Virginia Tech (VT) in the Department of Plant Pathology, Physiology and Weed Science (PPWS), VA, USA. During her postdoctoral career she was an honorary researcher collaborator at the ETSIAM-UCO for a couple of years. In that period, she performed a granted short term scientific mission (STSM) at the Institute of Sciences of Food Production (ISPA) from the Italian National Research Council (CNR), Bari, IT; continuing her international collaborative work months later at the Faculty of Sciences of the UCO. Dr. Pineda-Martos has participated in the European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST) Actions FA1206 STREAM (2013-2017), CA16123 SACURIMA (2017-2021), and CA16219 HARMONIOUS “Harmonization of UAS techniques for agricultural and natural ecosystems monitoring” (2017-2022). Currently, RPM is an active member of the COST Actions CA17133 Circular City “Implementing nature based solutions for creating a resourceful circular city” (22/10/2018-21/10/2022) and CA20138 NEXUSNET “Network on water-energy-food nexus for a low-carbon economy in Europe and beyond” (22/09/2021-21/09/2025). RPM is a member of the extended Core Team (ECT) and the working group 4 (WG4) on urban farming of Circular City, and member of the WG1 on monitoring and modelling the nexus, and WG5 on organization and monitoring of events of NEXUSNET. COST Action Circular City has granted her last research stay for two months at the University of Algarve, Faro, PT in 2019-2020. She also worked for several months in a business (SME) research and development (R&D) department, leading some European competitive research projects. She is a reviewer in the scientific journals Weed Research, Molecular Ecology, Sains Malaysiana, Turkish Journal of Botany, Atmosphere, International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, and Plant Science Today; being also editorial committee member of this last one. Member of the organizing committee of the 1st and 2nd International Conferences on Advances in Plant Sciences, Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina (2018 and 2019). She has worked as a Professor in the area of Plant Production of the Agroforestry Sciences Department at the School of Engineering of the University of Huelva (ETSI-UHU) from 2016-2018, and in the area of Agroforestry Engineering of the Aerospace Engineering and Fluid Mechanics Department at the School of Agricultural Engineering of the University of Seville (ETSIA-US) from 2019-present; tutoring several graduate and master’s theses. RPM was part of the scientific and organizing committees of the International Virtual Congresses WeTeachWeLearn, organized from the UCO in 2018 and 2020.
