Ricardo Macedo is an assistant researcher at INESC TEC and an invited assistant professor at University of Minho. He obtained is PhD in 2023 under the MAP-i doctoral program of Universities of Minho, Aveiro, and Porto, with his thesis "User-level Software-Defined Storage Data Planes". He is part of the distributed storage research team at INESC TEC (https://dsr-haslab.github.io), which focuses on researching and developing highly efficient, secure, and reliable storage systems. Since 2023, Ricardo has been leading the "Storage and operating systems for modern data centers" research line, aiming to explore how emerging storage and operating systems technologies (e.g., persistent memory, resource disaggregation, user-level storage systems, dynamic power management) will impact the future of data-intensive applications and shape modern infrastructures (namely, cloud computing data centers and HPC supercomputers) in terms of performance and sustainability. He has several publication on top conferences, workshops, and journals, including ACM Computing Surveys, IEEE Access, USENIX FAST, ACM VLDB, and IEEE/ACM CCGrid. He has been an active member on the research and development of multiple international and national projects, such as Sustainable HPC, ATE, Compete2020 BigHPC, PT-UTAustin PAStor, H2020 SafeCloud, and H2020 SMILES, as well as industry-related projects (LazyFS with Jepsen LLC) and international consortiums (CENTRA). Currently, Ricardo is the PI of the "Performance and Sustainability Management in Modern Data Centers" project (which is part of the CENTRA transnational collaboration network), is INESC TEC's local coordinator of the P2030 CDMS project, and is a collaborator in the SustainSys project from the Canada's Collaborative Research and Training Experience program. Ricardo collaborates with multiple researchers from the computer systems and HPC fields, including Vijay Chidambaram (UTAustin & VMWare Research), Alysson Bessani (FCUL), Oana Balmau and Stella Bitchebe (McGill University), Raju Rangaswami and Janki Bhirmani (FIU), Jason Haga and Yusuke Tanimura (AIST), Todd Evans (Intel), Amit Ruhela, Stephen Harrell and John Cazes (TACC & UTAustin), and Thaleia Doudali (IMDEA). He has also served as a reviewer in conferences, workshops, and journals of the operating systems, storage systems, and HPC fields, including ACM ASPLOS, Euro-Par, SSDBM, REX-IO (co-located with IEEE CLUSTER), ESSA (co-located with IEEE IPDPS), Journal of Supercomputing, and ACM TACO.
