Currently I am a Research Intern and prospective PhD candidate with strong foundations in physics and astrophysics, complemented by professional experience in software development, data science and project management. I recently secured competitive funding from an international call (by Fondazione Aldo Gini) for a six-months specialization period at the Università di Padova (February–August 2026). Working with Dr. Diego Bossini, we are developing a new version of PARAM code to integrate the stellar chemical abundances into the derivation of their fundamental properties (mass, radius and age), and later analyse its implications for host-stars and exoplanets characterization. This research is already being prepared into a forthcoming publication (targeting a high-impact scientific journal) to be published by the end of the referred period. Also this stay provides a robust foundation for Task 3 of the proposed PhD work plan. Given my high interest and the importance of astro-informatics, data analysis and software development in present day astrophysics, I worked for DATAWISE (https://datawise.pt/) as a Software Programmer in the last year, where I have studied, developed and maintained custom software solutions, contributing to three main projects (check my GitHub account for more details): a news scrapping and filtering web service for the tech and tourism industries; a webservice for scrapping and filtering procurement announcements from the Portuguese Diário da República; and a fleet management webservice. My technical stack included Python, machine learning (scikit-learn), AI APIs (Gemini/OpenAI for text classification and output structuring), git/GitHub, SQL, Microsoft Azure services (DBs, VMs, etc.) and Linux terminal. Furthermore, I cultivated essential project management skills by preparing meetings with clients, writing and discussing business proposals, and conducting research for new projects and software architectures. Both my Master's degree in Astrophysics and Instrumentation for Space and Bachelor's degree in Physics were obtained in the University of Coimbra. My Master’s thesis on the dynamic evolution of compact planetary systems, supervised by Dr. Alexandre Correia, was developed in the Centre for Physics of the University of Coimbra. This research included programming with Python and Gnuplot (for data analysis), Fortran77 (for numerical simulations in the CFisUC computer cluster), and TRIP (for frequency analysis). Complementing my academic record, I participated in 2 thematic schools, SAG11 and Habitability in the Solar System and beyond, and made 2 public presentations, a seminar on the formation of compact planetary systems near mean motion resonances and a white paper regarding life detection on Enceladus. I also balanced my academic workload with regular sports practice in the Volleyball and Tennis sections of the Associação Académica de Coimbra. My experience as an assistant at the Museu de Arte Contemporânea de Elvas (while I was trying to find funding to continue my studies), the volunteering collaboration with the helpo NGO, the participation in the WYD 2023 orchestra and the continuous violin practice (for more than 10 years), enabled me specifically to develop my soft skills in outreach, public speaking, working discipline and collaborative teamwork in diverse settings.
