Lénia Rato attends the Doctoral Program in Biosciences by Life Sciences Department in Coimbra University since 2018/12/01, and hosted by MARE Polytechnic of Leiria (Portugal) and NWO-NIOZ Texel (The Netherlands). She completed a Master in Aquaculture in 2016 by ESTM in Polytechnic of Leiria and a Bachelor in Biology in 2014 by deBio in Universidade de Aveiro, with first class honours. Published several articles in peer-reviewed journals and has 3 in press/prep. Has received 4 awards. Works in the area(s) of Biological and Environmental sciences. Her research path started with zooplankton taxonomy, environmental forcing, and sampling/monitoring in an UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Passionate about complex life dynamics and processes, she then proceeded to study the impact of other abiotic factors on several coastal and marine species (plankton, bivalves, fish, jellyfish, and others) and the interaction of those among native and non-indigenous species. She now conceals integrative and regenerative approaches in her professional activity, being involved in R&D and consulting projects who envision habitat and ecosystem improvements in sync with human activities (ecosytem services, nature-based solutions, marine protected areas, sustainable aquaculture, and regenerative practices).
