Shan Wang, is a tenured assistant professor of DEM, IST, University of Lisbon. She received her PhD degree from University of Lisbon in 2016, funded by FCT. Her PhD thesis was on “Hydroelastic Response of Ship Structural Components Subjected to Slamming Loads”, which was approved with “pass with distinction and honor”. She has supervised 12 master students and 4 joint PhD students, published 108 peer-reviewed journal papers and conference proceedings/book chapters. The h-index is 24 and the total citation is 1908. She is the committee member of II.2 “Dynamic Response” committee in 21st and 22nd International Ship and Offshore Structures Congress, and the scientific secretary in ISSC-ITTC Joint Committee on Uncertainty Modelling. She won the Chinese Government Prize for Outstanding PhD Students Abroad 2015, which awarded the Top 500 Chinese PhD students globally. She is the member of editorial board in the top journal of this field, Ocean Engineering. She also participated in the organization of international conferences, RENEW2018, MARTECH2024, OMAE2022 and RENEW2022. She is also them member of the associate board in Journal of Marine Science and Application, and Guest editor of the special issues of “Hydrodynamics and Mooring Analysis of Floating Structures “, "Impact of Ocean Wave Loads on Marine Structures”, "Mooring Systems for Offshore Structures and Devices" in Journal of Marine Science and Engineering, and the Special issue "Women in science: energy research 2023", in Journal of Frontiers in Energy Research. She has participated in five FCT funded projects and three EU funded projects. She is the PI of two FCT funded projects regarding the CFD simulations of the hydrodynamics of floating bodies, including large ships and renewable energy devices. Her role in the EU funded projects of ELASTMOOR (wave energy converters), ARCWIND (Wind turbine platform), and NATURSEA_PV (floating solar system) has been the leader on the tasks regarding the mooring design and analysis with the application of synthetic ropes on renewable energy systems. She participated in the EU funded project EXTREME SEAS, addressing the slamming loads on marine structures in extreme waves. She has more than 10 years’ experience in teaching for bachelor, master, and PhD students on the courses regarding dynamics and hydrodynamic of floating systems and mooring analysis. She proposed research-driven projects as practical applications which allow students to apply their knowledge meaningfully. She has collaborated with researchers in different Universities, contributing to the advancement of knowledge in various areas related to offshore wind energy and mooring design. At the University of Stavanger in 2023, she served as a visiting assistant professor, focusing on mooring design for FOWTs and utilizing the SIMA software. In 2019, her visit to Tianjin University provided valuable insights into synthetic rope testing at the State Key Laboratory of Hydraulic Engineering Simulation and Safety in Tianjin, China. Her visit to the University of Exeter's Renewable Energy Group in 2019 focused on mooring snap load reduction techniques. As a visiting assistant professor, she worked closely with researchers to explore innovative strategies for mitigating snap loads in mooring systems, contributing to the development of safer and more reliable offshore wind energy infrastructure.
