Naturalista marinha desde a infância no intertidal de Vila do Conde. Investigadora do mar profundo e dos corais nos Açores, onde iniciou o percurso académico. Exploradora do NE Atlântico profundo durante 14 cruzeiros científicos. Movida pelo interesse em Octocorais através de uma perspectiva integrada de taxonomia e zoogeografia. Coleções de história natural proporcionam-lhe as amostras que são essenciais à construção desse puzzle. Mais de uma década a colecionar, catalogar e ensinar curadoria de uma coleção de invertebrados marinhos levam-na a defender afincadamente coleções de história natural e taxonomia. Ela é a gestora do Biobanco Azul Português, a coleção do futuro.

2017/08/08 Cold-Water Coral Day | A dedicated Ocean week is held every year in August on the mid-Atlantic island of Faial, Azores. Visitors participate in aquatic sports, parades and concerts in Horta, the main city of the Blue Island and in 2017 the Cold-Water Coral group brought the deep-sea biological collection and respective research to the public, representing ATLAS and the MERCES project.
