Christina Crisóstomo is graduated in Biochemistry by the University of Minho (UMinho) since 2019. To conclude her graduation in Biochemistry, she executed a scientific project related to the evaluation of the oenological properties of Saccharomyces cerevisiae wine strains. This project was supervised by Prof. Maria João Sousa (Department of Biology, UMinho). In 2022, she completed her Master in Molecular Genetics at UMinho (final classification:17/20). Her master's dissertation entitled “Analysis of antifungal extract production from plants and in vivo assessment of activity” was supervised by Prof. Rui Oliveira and Prof. Ana Cunha (Department of Biology, UMinho). Recently, she published her master results, as first author, in an international scientific journal indexed to Scopus and WoS. Since May 2023, she has been a research grant holder (BI) at the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD), supported by the subproject “New molecules designed to control critical pests and diseases and biocontrol of vineyard pests”, included in the project “Vine&Wine-Portugal”, funded by PRR - “Plano de Recuperação e Resiliência" and "European funds NextGeneration EU”. Currently, she’s a Scholarship Researcher Member at the Centre for the Research and Technology of Agro-Environmental and Biological Sciences (CITAB) of UTAD. She has been attending many scientific events, conferences, webinars and workshops to increase her knowledge in different areas of the Biological Sciences field. Furthermore, she presented, as author or co-author, 10 communications in national and international scientific conferences, namely, 6 posters and 1 oral communication (international conferences) and 3 posters (national conferences). One of her posters (“In vitro culture as a tool for evaluating the phytotoxic effects of herbicides on Vitis vinifera L.“), presented in the XVI Jornadas de Genética e Biotecnologia | VI Jornadas Ibéricas de Genética y Biotecnología, was awarded with an honourable mention. Beyond her work as BI, she also contributed to the analysis of results and writing of manuscripts, related to parallel works that were developed at the Plant Cytogenomics Laboratory of UTAD (where she has been working since 2023). As a result, she co-authored two scientific articles recently published in Scopus- and WoS-indexed international journals. In 2024, she cosupervised two final internships of students of the degree in Genetics and Biotechnology of UTAD. Currently, she’s supervisor and co-supervisor of two undergraduate students of the Biology and Biochemistry Courses of UTAD. She also helps undergraduate and master students working in the same lab helping them with their experimental work and results interpretation. Lastly, since February 2025, she was invited as graduate teaching assistant professor, and has been teaching practical-laboratorial classes of Molecular Genetics to the 2nd year of the Biochemistry degree at UTAD. Globally, during the past few years, working as BI at UTAD she has been acquiring novel skills and improving her technical, academic and scientific experience and knowledge. Christina has also developed important personal skills such as critical thinking, organization, responsibility, persistence, the ability to adapt to new environments and new research teams and the capability to solve problems.
