Lina Fernanda Ballesteros Giraldo is graduated in Food Science Engineering (2006) from the University of Caldas - Colombia, where received a meritorious mention and honors degree for the work developed in her thesis. She finished her Ph.D. in Chemical and Biological Engineering at the University of Minho (2016), and subsequently, she started a postdoctoral position at the Centre of Biological Engineering (CEB) of the University of Minho. In 2021, Lina gained the Scientific Employment Stimulus - 3rd Edition, and since then, she has worked as a Junior researcher at CEB. Her research has been focused on the development of bio-based, active, and intelligent food packaging materials, and the re-utilization of agro-industrial wastes and natural resources to extract interest compounds for the food industry. During her journey in research, Lina has been involved in different national and international research projects. Currently, she is a team member of the project “From fossil to forest - Sustainable packaging and products to replace fossil plastic” (H2020-INFRADEV-2019-2, CEB Budget » 726 k€). Lina is also a Guest topic board member of the Foods and Frontiers in Sustainable Food Systems journals. Until now, she has supervised 1 MSc thesis and has tutored several Ph.D. and MSc students. She has published 1 book, 27 papers in peer-reviewed journals, 3 book chapters, 10 extended abstracts in international conferences, and 17 abstracts in national and international conferences, with approximately 1971 total cites (Scopus) and 2972 total cites (Google Scholar), which translate in an h-index of 12 and 14, respectively.
