Ana Rita Francisco Luís, PhD in Behavioural Biology, with strong interest in acoustic communication, underwater noise and conservation. In 2007 has received a Luso-American Foundation Scholarship to study at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution - Marine Mammals Center (WHOI-MMC), under the supervision of Peter Tyack. Since then, continued to develop research on small-toothed cetaceans. Researcher in scientific projects funded by national institutions, namely ICNF, FCT and Direção-Geral de Política do Mar (DGPM), and also in environmental risk assessment contract projects. Co-authored a variety of publications, including scientific journals, books, scientific reports and policy dispatches, and engaged in scientific article reviewing for international journals. Actively involved in marine conservation policies, was scientific board member in the Action Plan for the Conservation and Monitoring of the population of bottlenose dolphin of Sado estuary, Portugal, and participated in concept development of educational and outreach programs for Oceanário de Lisboa and Oceano Azul Foundation, Lecturer at ISPA - Instituto Universitário since 2012, has mentored 6 MSc students with thesis on bioacoustiscs, underwater noise and/or animal communication. Currently, coordinating a citizen-science based project (https://www.biodiversity4all.org/projects/cetasee) and a research grant (CETASEE Tejo) on the occurrence and distribution of cetaceans in Portugal. She is also consultant for cetaceans at ANP|WWF Portugal and guest specialist for small-toothed cetaceans at preliminary portuguese Marine Strategy Framework Directive workshops.
