Manuel Francisco Colaço de Castro Pereira

Manuel Francisco Pereira is a field geologist and stratigraphy and structural geology expert. He has completed the Habilitation title (2009) and the Ph.D. (2000), both in Geology at Évora University, an MSc degree in Internal Geodynamics (1995), and a BSc degree in Geology (1991) at Lisbon University. Since 2018, is an Associate Professor with Habilitation at the Geoscience Department of the Science and Technology School and a senior researcher at the Earth Sciences Institute of the Évora University. Published 95 articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals (3,133 citations; h-index=34; SCOPUS citation database; 14jan2025). Works on geological mapping, petrography, microtectonics, geochemistry, geochronology, provenance analysis, and regional tectonics are the main areas of interest. He has interacted with more than one hundred collaborators and co-authored scientific papers in his professional activities. Since 2012, has coordinated high school teacher training courses and scientific dissemination activities on geodiversity in collaboration with schools and municipalities in the Alentejo region. Now, he is conducting scientific research on the evolution of the crustal structure of Iberia as part of the team working on two projects funded by the Spanish government (IBERSUTURES and IBERCRUST-II). He has been a member of a new R&D research unit at Évora University, CREATE- Center for Sci-Tech Research in Earth System and Energy, since 2024.
