Sara Pimenta is a physiotherapist and research fellow at the Center for Innovative Care and Health Technology (ciTechCare), an R&D Unit from the Polytechnic of Leiria (FCT/UI/05704/2020). Her research areas and interests mainly focus on chronic respiratory disease, pulmonary rehabilitation, physical activity, self-management, and person-centred interventions. Since 2021, Sara has been collaborating on 4 funded research projects. She was a research fellow on the ForPharmacy project (Future pharmacy as a plug-and-play ecosystem) where she collaborated to identify functional and operational requirements for the subsequent creation of a self-management module for COPD and other respiratory diseases. Within this work, she was attending the Advanced Course in Research in Health Sciences (ESSLei). She acquired skills and knowledge about research and systematic review methodology in this course. Further, during the work on the ForPharmacy project, she was granted a RUN-EU International RDI Mobility Research Grant in the field of physical activity and health science, at the Technological University of the Shannon Midlands Midwest - Athlone Campus, Ireland. Sara is also working on the OncoEnergy project (FCT REF UIDB/05704/2020) in the field of prehabilitation for lung cancer surgery, where she is collaborating in data collection in clinical settings, co-production of scientific papers and conducting her Master's Thesis. Additionally, she is part of the team of another ongoing project aiming to explore the impact of the coexistence of type 2 diabetes and COPD on patients' nutritional and functional status. Since her last internship for the Physiotherapy degree in 2020, she collaborated on the OnTRACK: On Time to Rethink ACtivity Knowledge: a personalized mHealth coaching platform to tackle physical inactivity in COPD (POCI-01-0145-FEDER-007628), where she actively participated in participants' recruitment, qualitative /quantitative data collection/analysis and the design of the experimental methodology. Within this project, Sara was a member of the organization committee of the OnTRACK Closing Event. During her research career, Sara has published 6 papers in peer-reviewed journals, 2 as first-author; and first-authored 4 abstracts for (inter)national congresses, and coauthored 7 abstracts, 4 of them published in conference proceedings. Sara was also part of the team honoured in 2022 at the 1st Portuguese Congress of Lifestyle Medicine. She also co-authored the work awarded with the best oral communication, in 2 national congresses in the field of oncology. In 2022, Sara was invited to participate in an oral presentation at a ciTechCare event - ScienceSwing, in the field of health promotion in Chronic Respiratory Disease. Sara also has working experience in the area of geriatric rehabilitation, having already worked as a physiotherapist integrated into a multidisciplinary team in elderly home care.
